Zebras

Now for something completely different.  Whenever I look at quilts in magazines or at shows I am always attracted to those that seem to have a layered effect, a depth of colour.  Last year I spent quite a bit of time playing with landscapes of various sorts and trying to achieve what is referred to as "atmospheric perspective"  -  where colours in the foreground are stronger while those further away are softer and greyer.....  I also enjoy quilts where the blocks when joined form a secondary pattern - so I thought I might try to find a suitable block where I could combine both.  I found a block in EQ7 called Blueberry Pie which looked as though it might work.   In digging through my stash I found some zebra fabric which reminded me of a lovely photo Melissa and Felix had taken on a recent trip to Tanzania....

With that in mind I searched out some softer/greyer fabrics to create the secondary design and atmospheric perspective to combine with the zebra fabric and the photo printed onto fabric.  Here is a mock up of the result - a bit of fun.....

So now I need to make 4 of these to see the secondary design....
