Machine Reverse Applique

For those of us who occasionally need a 'quick fix' ...  I decided to have a play with reverse applique by machine...there are a number of different techniques for machine reverse applique  - I wanted to design a  small project that combines reverse applique with some free motion practice - the results follow..... the technique is simple, free motion stitch the design and quilt at the same time, then cut away to reveal the fabric behind....

I returned to the needle turn applique geraniums for the first design ......

I've stretched this one in an embroidery frame

For the second design I decided on leaves.....

so easy and great fun!!!!  I think I will frame this one....

Batiks and hand dyes work well for this type of work with their fine weave and a small sharp pair of scissors are essential!!!

  1. It looks a bit easier than I thought. (Not sure what I was thinking...) I'll try and give it a go. I think the leaves would look lovely framed - or as an inset in another quilted piece like a journal cover.
