Two by Two

Guess what I'm working on?????

I always find the hardest bit of a challenge is getting started .... finding the idea.  I am reassured by Twyla Tharp's description of her first steps in creating a dance, in her book 'The Creative Habit"....

"The first steps of a creative act are like groping in the dark; random and chaotic, feverish and fearful, a lot of busy-ness with no apparent or definable end in sight.  There is noting yet to research.  For me, these moments are not pretty, I look like a desperate woman, tortured by the simple message thumping away in my head:  'You need an idea'    It's not enough for me to walk into a studio and start dancing, hoping that something good will come of my aimless cavorting on the studio floor............... you can't just dance or paint or write or sculpt (or quilt).  Those are just verbs.  You need a tangible idea to get you going.  The idea, however miniscule, is what turns the verb into a noun - paint into a painting (quilting into a quilt)....."

So I'm searching for the idea with  a bit of brainstorming ....

Two by two...

.....Noah's Ark Story..."the animals went in two by two"...animals
.....Equals four ... maths tables...school
.....timber size... buildings ... construction
....four patch ... pinwheel, two by two block.....
.....Pairs, twins, couples...  marriage, relationship...Gemini
.....Sequence   2,4,8...
.....two steps/stairs at a time
.....double, duos, partners

I'll let you know where to from here.....

  1. What a wonderful quote...certainly I have felt like 'a desperate woman, tortured' by something thumping in my head - though more to the point of wondering if my idea will work. Now that it's coming together I'm getting some sleep. 'The animals came in two by two' has certainly been stuck in my brain - you might even say it's my title unless I can think of something more imaginative......
