Journal Quilts

I am always drawn to landscapes and want to explore the different ways of translating some of my landscape photos into textiles,  so I've decided to make a small landscape journal quilt -  about A4 size - each month using different inspirations and different techniques .....

Here is the journal quilt for March -  my inspiration was a photograph of the coast North of Broome. 

 I have selected just a section of the photo and tried to simplify and stylise the design.  I incorporated some "rusted" fabric that I had been experimenting with and some hand stitching along with the quilting.    Here is the final result .......


  1. I like your interpretation Carolyn. I keep thinking of photos I could use to the journal pages for Ro's retreat class in August and go to the computer, start looking for photos...6 hours later none chosen but thousands looked at!!!
